New Delhi: In a move that defied expectations, an alliance was formed between the BJP and Congress in the Ambernath Municipal Council in Maharashtra, but it collapsed within a short time. The alliance was announced by senior leaders of both the BJP and Congress.

However, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had already expressed his objection to this alliance, but local leaders of both parties had formed it to thwart the plans of the Shinde faction. This BJP-Congress alliance did not last long. Seeing the embarrassment it caused, the Congress announced the dissolution of the alliance and took strict action against its councillors, including its candidate.

Major action by Congress leadership

The Congress suspended Ambernath block president Pradeep Patil forallyinge with the BJP. Action was taken against him for forming a local-level alliance with the BJP. The Congress also completely dissolved its local unit.

The Congress also suspended 12 councillors who had won from Ambernath. This is being seen as a major action by the Congress in Maharashtra. Meanwhile, before the Congress’s action, Chief Minister Fadnavis had also stronglycriticisedd BJP leaders in Akola for allying with the Congress and AIMIM, and warned of action against them.
