PM Surya Ghar Scheme 2026: Free Solar Power and Subsidy for 1 Crore Families, Check Details

The Union Cabinet has now approved a project to provide up to 300 units of solar power to every household for free. 1 crore families in the country are being included in this project. Solar panels will be installed on the roofs of their houses. They will not have to spend a single rupee to use up to 300 units of solar power per month, which the government is hopeful will save thousands of rupees per year for the common man. Before the Lok Sabha elections, the Center has launched the ‘Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana’ project. Under this, up to 300 units of free electricity will be provided to every household using solar energy. Union Minister Anurag Thakur held a press conference on Thursday. He said that the Union Cabinet has given approval to the ‘Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana’ project. The Prime Minister launched the project on February 13. Anurag said that this step of the center will benefit the common families of the country. In addition, domestic production will also be boosted by using solar energy. This project will directly employ 17 lakh people. Anurag said that the government will provide subsidy on the cost of installing solar panels on the roof of the house.

The center has said that the government will provide 60 percent of the cost of installing technology capable of generating 2 kilowatts of electricity. The government will provide 40 percent of the additional cost of installing technology capable of generating 2-3 kilowatts of electricity. The center claims that a subsidy of 30 thousand rupees will be provided for 1 kilowatt, 60 thousand rupees for 2 kilowatts and 78 thousand rupees for 3 kilowatts. Those who already have solar panels on the roof of their houses will not get any subsidy.

The estimated cost of installing 3 kilowatt solar panels is 1 lakh 45 thousand rupees. The center will provide a subsidy of 78 thousand rupees on top of that. A loan can be taken from the bank at a low interest rate of 1 kilowatt. With the help of net metering, households will also be able to sell excess electricity to various companies.

The center said that if solar power connections are installed, the common man will save money on paying electricity bills. If 3 kW of electricity technology is installed, more than 300 units of electricity will be generated per month, which is much more than the requirement.
