8th pay commission: Good news for central government employees. There is a huge update revealed regarding 8th Pay Commisson’s arrears. The 8th Pay Commission, established for central government employees, has started preparing to present its recommendations to the government. In this article, the Pay Commission is not only conducting meetings in various cities nationwide but has also begun gathering input from employee organizations, pensioners, and other stakeholders. Meanwhile, calculations regarding salaries and arrears in the new Pay Commission are in progress. Today, we will discuss how much salary and arrears each employee might receive.
Will you receive arrears for 20 months?
The Eighth Pay Commission has been allotted 18 months to deliver its recommendations to the government. This timeframe will conclude in the first half of 2027. However, given the current pace, there may be a delay of one or two months. In this scenario, the recommendations are anticipated to be submitted to the government by August 2027. It is thought that the government might implement the Pay Commission’s recommendations retroactively, starting from January 1, 2026. If this occurs, central government employees will be entitled to 20 months’ worth of arrears.
Arrears are typically paid from the date the new pay commission comes into effect. This means that if there is a delay of approximately 20 months in implementing the revised pay, employees may receive arrears based on the difference between their current basic pay and the revised basic pay under the new fitment factor.
Suggestions are to be submitted by June 15
The 8th Pay Commission is seeking suggestions from central employees and stakeholders through its official website. After the formal memorandum submission process began in March, the Pay Commission has invited suggestions and memorandums by June 15. The submission process began on March 5, 2026, with earlier deadlines of April 30 and May 31. The recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission will impact approximately 50 lakh central government employees and 65 lakh pensioners. The term of the 7th Pay Commission ended on December 31, 2025.
