BCCI’s New Retirement Policy: If you are planning to retire to play in overseas leagues, this news might come as a major shock to you. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to introduce significant changes to its retirement policy soon.
The BCCI is preparing to crack down on players who start playing in foreign leagues immediately after retiring. Under current rules, active Indian cricketers are not permitted to play in overseas leagues, though they are free to do so after retirement. The BCCI is now looking to curb this practice.

Here is what the new proposed retirement policy entails
The BCCI is considering this policy due to players who retire specifically to participate in foreign leagues. This issue gained particular attention following the case of Vijay Shankar, who joined the Kandy Royals team in the Sri Lanka Premier League within a week of retiring.
The proposed policy introduces a “cooling-off period” for players following their retirement. This means that if a player participates in a foreign league after retiring, they will be barred from playing cricket at any level in India for five years.
To put it simply: if an Indian player retires today, they will not be able to participate in any foreign league for the next five years. If they do choose to play in such a league, they will be ineligible to play cricket at any level in India for those five years.
Yuvraj and Irfan also saw playing.
Vijay Shankar is not the only player to have played in other leagues after retirement. Several legendary cricketers, including Yuvraj Singh, Irfan Pathan, and Harbhajan Singh, have participated in tournaments like the World Championship of Legends and Legends League Cricket. This retirement policy may not affect them, however, as they do not play cricket at any other competitive level.
