He defeated Veena Devi, the wife of RJD candidate Suraj Bhan. Anant Singh was leading from the first round. At one point, the margin narrowed significantly, but then Anant Singh regained a significant lead. He has become the MLA from the Mokama seat for the sixth time.

Anant Singh Hits a Sixer of Victory

Anant Singh hit a sixer of victory in the Bihar Assembly elections. This time, the Mokama Assembly seat was in the news because a triangular contest was expected here. Anant Singh, who had been an MLA for five consecutive terms, was pitted against Veena Devi, the wife of RJD strongman Suraj Bhan Singh, and Piyush Priyadarshi of the Jan Suraj Party. Piyush belongs to the Dhanuk caste and has put all his efforts into consolidating the votes of his caste.

However, during the election campaign, a dispute arose when the convoys of Piyush and Anant Singh encountered each other. A scuffle broke out between the two sides, leading to stone pelting and firing, resulting in the death of Dular Chand Yadav, a supporter of Jan Suraj. Following an FIR in this case, Anant Singh was sent to jail in judicial custody. He remains in jail, but the people of Mokama have blessed him.

Who won the Mokama seat and when?

The Mokama assembly seat has been continuously held by strongmen since 1990. In 1990 and 1995, Anant Singh’s elder brother, Dilip Singh, won from the Janata Dal (JD) while aligned with Lalu Prasad Yadav and also became a minister.

In 2000, Suraj Bhan Singh defeated Dilip Singh to win, but Anant Singh contested on a JDU ticket in 2005 and defeated Suraj Bhan Singh to become MLA for the first time. However, a government was not formed in 2005, and after the imposition of President’s rule, elections were held in October-November of that year, where Anant Singh won for the second time.
