The second match of the three-match ODI series between India and New Zealand was played at the Rajkot stadium on January 14th. The Kiwis won the match by 7 wickets, leveling the series at 1-1. With the exception of KL Rahul and captain Shubman Gill, the Indian batsmen disappointed with their performances, including Virat Kohli.

A major security lapse was also observed during the match when, while Team India was fielding, a fan suddenly ran to meet Virat Kohli.
Fans’ obsession with Virat Kohli is evident throughout world cricket, and something similar was evident in the Rajkot ODI. While Team India was fielding in the match, a fan suddenly broke through the security cordon and entered the field, running straight to Virat Kohli. Kohli responded with great ease and embraced the fan. Security personnel then arrived, apprehended him, and escorted him off the field. Virat Kohli also urged the security personnel to treat the fan with kindness.

Virat Kohli’s brilliant 93-run innings in the first ODI against New Zealand was a major boost, leading everyone to expect him to deliver a big knock in this match as well. However, he failed to achieve that feat in the Rajkot ODI. This is the first innings in his last five ODIs where he failed to score a 50 or more runs.
Kohli’s 23 runs off 29 balls were the only innings he was bowled by Christian Clarke. The third and final ODI of the series will be played on January 18th at the Holkar Stadium in Indore, where a big innings can be expected from Kohli.
