The Indian Under-19 team is currently participating in the ICC Under-19 World Cup, being jointly hosted by Zimbabwe and Namibia. Team India will play its first match in Group A against the USA on January 15th in Bulawayo. All eyes will once again be on the performance of the Indian Under-19 team’s star opening batsman, Vaibhav Suryavanshi.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi can break Virat Kohli’s record
Over the past year, Vaibhav’s batting prowess in youth ODIs has been widely discussed, and everyone expects a strong performance from him in this mega event. Vaibhav also has the opportunity to achieve two significant feats in the match against the USA.
So far, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has batted in 18 innings in Youth ODIs, scoring a total of 973 runs at an average of 54.05. During this period, Vaibhav has scored three centuries and four half-centuries. If Vaibhav manages to score six more runs in the Under-19 World Cup match against the USA, he will surpass Virat Kohli as the highest run-scorer for India in Youth ODIs. Kohli played a total of 28 Youth ODIs, scoring 978 runs in 25 innings at an average of 46.57. Therefore, Vaibhav has a great opportunity to surpass him.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi will have a chance to achieve another big feat with the bat in the match against USA, where he needs 27 more runs to complete the 1000 run mark in his Youth ODI career. If Vaibhav achieves this in this match, he will become the third fastest Indian to complete 1000 runs in Youth ODIs. The list is topped by Shubman Gill who achieved this feat in just 13 innings, while Unmukt Chand is at the second position who managed to do so in 17 innings. Vaibhav will also become the 7th Indian player to complete 1000 runs in Youth ODIs.
