IPL 2026 Update: The Gujarat Titans—who had delivered a disappointing performance in the early matches of the Indian Premier League—finished as the runners-up this season. Yet, their aspirations of winning the final remained unfulfilled. The sting of defeat in the battle for the title is clearly visible on the faces of both the players and the team management. They suffered a defeat at the hands of RCB in the decisive clash.
In the final match, the performance of the Gujarat players did not live up to the fans’ expectations. Perhaps, had the target been pushed closer to the 190-run mark, their hopes of victory might have been realised. Following this crushing defeat, questions have begun to arise regarding certain players and the selection committee. Consequently, ahead of the ipl 2027 mega auction, the Gujarat Titans may decide to release these players. Find out below which players are likely to be released.

Glenn Phillips
You have undoubtedly heard the name of New Zealand’s aggressive player, Glenn Phillips. While he won the hearts of fans with his spectacular fielding, he proved to be a complete flop with the bat. In the 5 innings he played this season, Phillips scored a mere 67 runs at a modest average of 16.75. Captain Shubman Gill did not utilise his bowling services throughout the entire tournament, thereby limiting his role within the team to that of a pure batsman. Given his poor form, the release of this player—valued at ₹2 crore—is considered almost a certainty.
sai kishore
Left-arm slow bowler Sai Kishore also failed to make any significant impact for the Gujarat Titans this season. The team management did not grant him many opportunities this season; he took the field in only two innings, managing to claim just one wicket. The Gujarat Titans placed their trust in young players like Manav Suthar over Kishore, sending a clear signal that Sai Kishore is no longer part of the team’s plans. Releasing him would provide the team with an additional financial boost of ₹2 crore.
Shahrukh Khan
Shah Rukh Khan, brought in to fulfil the role of a finisher, also failed to live up to the team’s expectations. Throughout the entire season, he received the opportunity to bat in only five innings. In these appearances, he managed to score a mere 43 runs at an abysmal average of 10.75. Since Gujarat already possesses an experienced alternative in a player like Jason Holder, the team could release Shahrukh and look to acquire a different batsman in the upcoming auction.
Rahul Tewatia Also Disappoints
Rahul Tewatia is widely considered to be the biggest name likely to feature on the Gujarat Titans’ release list. The performance of this ₹4 crore player has been extremely mediocre of late, and he appears unable to keep pace with the high-octane nature of modern T20 cricket. A glance at his statistics for this season reveals that Tewatia scored just 190 runs across 15 innings, maintaining an average of 27.14. It is highly probable that he will be released ahead of the next season.
