The government has tightened regulations to enforce the one-household, one-gas connection rule and to expand the PNG network across the country. The government recently released the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Amendment Order, which is effective from May 25, 2026. Under this new order, if a consumer acquires a new PNG connection, they are required to terminate their LPG connection within exactly 30 days from that date.

Transfer Voucher (TV) offers significant relief

The government has not only tightened regulations but has also provided considerable relief. After you discontinue your LPG connection, you will receive a transfer voucher. This rule is particularly beneficial for tenants, students, and employees who are being relocated.

Will LPG supply cease after June 30, 2026?

According to an order issued in March 2026, consumers in regions with existing PNG infrastructure were given until June 30 to transition to PNG. If a consumer fails to switch despite the availability of PNG, their LPG supply may be halted. As per the ministry’s regulations, consumers with PNG connections can no longer obtain a new LPG connection or refill their old cylinders through any government-owned oil company (like IGL, MGL, or GAIL).

Government’s guideline for the general public

The Petroleum Ministry has clarified that while there is a global LPG shortage due to the Middle East crisis, LPG distribution in the country will continue smoothly, so avoid panic booking. Consumers have been urged to use digital platforms for gas booking instead of visiting distributors and to consider alternative methods such as electric or induction cooktops.
