Shreyas Iyer’s participation in the India vs New Zealand ODI series will depend on his fitness. However, it is highly likely that he will be fit in time. Shreyas Iyer will play for Mumbai against Himachal Pradesh at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on January 6 in a Vijay Hazare Trophy match.

Shreyas Iyer fitness update

Shreyas Iyer has been cleared to play by the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, subject to certain conditions. The 31-year-old suffered a spleen injury while fielding during the Australia tour, ruling him out of the ODI series against South Africa. Iyer spent 10 days at the CoE for the final phase of his rehabilitation. As part of the return-to-play protocol, Iyer also played a practice match on January 2nd. He did not experience any discomfort during the practice match.

Now, a report claims that Shreyas Iyer is fully prepared to return. If Iyer misses the first match, he will likely play the second and final ODI. According to Cricbuzz, a source close to Iyer said, “He is almost fully fit.” “He should be 99 percent available for the first game. The COE has a one percent doubt about whether he will be able to play 100 overs, and that will be confirmed in the Vijay Hazare game.”

If there is any doubt about the January 6 match, Shreyas Iyer will be seen in the match against Punjab on January 8. It is highly unlikely that Iyer will not be allowed to play. However, if that happens, Ruturaj Gaikwad will be included in the team. Gaikwad was also included in the playing eleven for the series against South Africa and he capitalized on the opportunity by scoring a century.
