As part of a modern initiative, the Delhi Traffic Police has equipped its field officers with approximately 1,500 new, modern e-challan machines. These machines function as handheld devices that traffic police personnel will carry with them while on duty. If any individual violates traffic rules, the officer can issue a challan instantly, and the driver can make the payment immediately thereafter.

The most significant convenience offered now is that you do not need to carry cash to pay your traffic fines. People can make payments directly on the spot using UPI, debit cards, or credit cards. This will make the entire process faster and more transparent. Previously, many people had to visit an online portal later to pay their fines—or payments would often get delayed—but now, this entire task can be completed within just a few minutes.
These new machines come equipped with several modern features. These devices can instantly generate challans, expedite the payment process, and even capture a photograph of the individual violating the rules. Additionally, if a vehicle is towed, an immediate notification can be sent to the vehicle owner’s registered mobile number. This will enhance transparency in both record-keeping and enforcement actions.

The Delhi Traffic Police has linked this system to the Bharat Bill Payment System. The benefit of this is that people can pay both their old and new compoundable challans using any UPI app. This will make the challan payment process even simpler and more digital.
