Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) was furious after hearing the decision to remove Mustafizur Rahman from the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026), and its cricket board hastily held an emergency meeting to express its protest by taking a tough stand against India. In this regard, it stated that its team cannot travel to India for the upcoming T20 World Cup due to security threats.
Bangladesh Cricket Board to suffer heavy financial looses?
The T20 World Cup 2026 begins on February 7th, where Bangladesh has been placed in Group C. This group includes the West Indies, Italy, England, and Nepal. Bangladesh will play its first three matches at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Furthermore, it is scheduled to play its final group stage match against Nepal at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

However, after its players were withdrawn from the IPL, it has written to the ICC requesting that all its matches be played in Sri Lanka instead of India due to security concerns. The ICC’s decision on this matter is still awaited.
The first scenario is that the ICC accepts Bangladesh’s appeal and shifts all its matches from India to Sri Lanka, while allowing the rest of the tournament to proceed as planned. In that scenario, there will be two teams in the world that will not come to play in India. One team is already Pakistan. Sri Lanka is co-hosting this 20-team tournament with India.

However, until now, it has only hosted matches between Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Now, the inclusion of Bangladesh’s matches could present some challenges. It will have to prepare stadium pitches, adjust match schedules, and then arrange for accommodation for the teams that come to play against Bangladesh and their supporters. There are other logistical aspects that need to be addressed as well.
