India’s 14-year-old explosive batsman, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, achieved another historic milestone in the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2026 match against Bangladesh. In the match played in Bulawayo on January 17, Vaibhav played a brilliant innings of 72 runs in just 67 balls, which included six fours and three sixes.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi overtakes Babar Azam in all-time record list
Known for his explosive batting, Vaibhav adopted an aggressive approach from the start of the innings and reached his half-century in just 30 balls. Thus, Vaibhav Suryavanshi set a new world record for the youngest batsman to score a half-century in the history of the Men’s Under-19 World Cup. He achieved this feat at the age of 14 years and 296 days.

Previously, this record was held by Afghanistan’s Shahidullah Kamal, who scored a half-century against the West Indies in 2014 at the age of 15 years and 19 days. Vaibhav’s feat has now pushed Pakistan’s star batsman Babar Azam down to third place on the list. He achieved this feat against the West Indies in 2010 at the age of 15 years and 92 days.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi achieved another significant record with this match. He surpassed Virat Kohli as the highest run-scorer for Indian batsmen in youth ODI cricket. Vaibhav has scored 1,047 runs in just 20 youth ODI matches, compared to Virat Kohli’s 978 in 28. Vijay Zol tops this list of Indian players, having scored 1,404 runs in 36 matches. The overall record is held by Bangladesh’s Nazmul Hussain Shanto, who has scored 1,820 runs.
