Virat Kohli to return in Test cricket? BCCI issue statement

Team India is in a dire state in Test cricket. New Zealand and then South Africa crushed the Indian team at home. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy on Australian soil also slipped from India’s grasp this time. The team’s batting order has been seen succumbing to spinners in their own backyard. Demands are rising on social media to bring Virat Kohli back into Test cricket and urge the BCCI to withdraw his retirement. A major statement has now been issued by the BCCI regarding Kohli’s return to Test cricket.

Will King Kohli return to Test cricket?

In fact, BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia, speaking with a news platform, dismissed reports of Kohli’s return from Test retirement as mere rumors. He said, “Whatever is being said about Virat Kohli is nothing but rumors. The BCCI has not had any discussions with Virat about this. Don’t rely on rumors. Nothing like this is happening.” It’s worth noting that Virat retired from Test cricket in May of this year.

The Indian batting order is failing miserably in Test cricket. The absence of Rohit Sharma and especially Virat Kohli has clearly been felt by the team. In the two-match Test series against South Africa, none of the Indian batsmen managed to score a century. This was the first time in 20 years that no Indian batsman had scored a century in a home series.

In the first Test, India were bundled out for 93 while chasing a target of 124. In the second Test, India were bowled out for just 140 runs in the face of a mammoth target of 549. Twenty-five years later, India lost a Test series 0-2 at home to South Africa.

Hundred for Virat

Virat Kohli created a stir by scoring a century in the Ranchi ODI against South Africa. Batting at a blistering pace, he scored his 52nd ODI century of his career. Kohli reached the century in just 102 balls. This is Kohli’s 83rd century in international cricket, holding the record for most centuries in this format. With this century, Kohli also broke the world record held by Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting.
