Team India: Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who made waves during the Indian Premier League 2026 season, will now be seen smashing fours and sixes at the international level as well. He has been included in the Indian cricket team. The 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi will now be seen playing against Ireland and England. This marks the first time a 15-year-old Indian player will make his debut for the country at the T20 level.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squad following a meeting of the men’s selection panel. Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar and BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia announced the team during a press conference. Shreyas Iyer will captain the team across all three tournaments, while Tilak Varma has been named vice-captain. 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi has also been included in the senior squad for the first time.
Jasprit Bumrah Rested
Explosive bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for the T20 series against Ireland and England. He will participate in the 2026 Asian Games, having taken the spot originally held by Mohammed Siraj; however, Siraj has been included in the T20 squad for the England and Ireland tour. The biggest news to emerge was that Suryakumar Yadav has been stripped of the T20 captaincy and has not been included in the squad at all.
Major Setback for Suryakumar Yadav
The BCCI not only removed Suryakumar Yadav from the captaincy but also excluded him from the team entirely. The decision to remove Surya was taken during a meeting of the BCCI’s Apex Council Committee, with the formal announcement made on Saturday. The squad for the ODI series against England will be announced at a later date.
