More than a month has passed since the Indian team won the Asia Cup. Yet, ACC and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi still seems to be clutching the trophy. BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia recently warned Naqvi that if Team India receives the trophy within two days, all will be well, otherwise he will raise the issue at the ICC meeting on November 4th. Since Naqvi has not responded, it appears he has ignored the BCCI’s warning.

BCCI had warned

According to news agency PTI, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said, “Yes, we are disappointed that the Indian team hasn’t received the trophy even a month after winning the tournament. We have taken action on this matter. We wrote to the ACC chairman about 10 days ago, but he is unwilling to budge. He still has the trophy, but we hope he will return it in a day or two.” Saikia further stated that if the trophy is not received, he will raise the matter at an ICC meeting.

The final decision will come tomorrow!

An ICC meeting is scheduled for tomorrow in Dubai. A BCCI representative may raise the issue of the Asia Cup trophy at this meeting. It’s possible that the ICC will mediate on this matter and issue a final decision tomorrow. Earlier, on September 30th, at the ACC meeting, Rajiv Shukla reprimanded Mohsin Naqvi. BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla stated that Mohsin Naqvi has no personal right to the Asia Cup trophy; Team India is its rightful owner, and therefore, the trophy should be handed over as soon as possible. Even after this, Naqvi has not handed over the trophy to Team India.

According to media reports, the sale of mobile gaming rights and the format of the Under-19 World Cup are likely to be two key topics of discussion at the ICC meeting. The meeting will be held from November 4th to 7th. Additionally, the issue of expanding cricket’s reach may also be raised. Discussions are also possible regarding inclusion of cricket in the South American and Pan American Games.
