sbi: Big news for SBI customers. Customers earning reward points by paying bills, insurance premiums or shopping online using their credit cards may face a major setback. SBI Card has decided to make major changes in the rules of reward points for PhonePe SBI Credit Card Purple and Select Black card holders. From July 1, 2026, the limit of reward points earned on many famous expenses will be reduced, while reward points will be completely stopped on some transactions. In such a situation, if you also use these cards, then it is very important for you to know the new rules, otherwise you will not be able to get the same benefits as before.
What will change for PURPLE cardholders?
SBI Card has revised the monthly reward points limit for the PhonePe SBI Credit Card PURPLE. Previously, cardholders could earn a maximum of 1,000 reward points per month on eligible PhonePe spends. A new limit has now been set. Insurance spends will earn a maximum of 250 reward points, and other PhonePe spends will earn a maximum of 750 reward points. Furthermore, the maximum reward points limit for online spends has been reduced from 1,000 to 750.
Black Card Update
The earning limit for reward points has been decreased for PhonePe SBI Credit Card SELECT BLACK users. Previously, spending through PhonePe could yield up to 2,000 reward points each month. Now, insurance-related expenses will only earn a maximum of 500 points, while other PhonePe transactions will be capped at 1,500 points. Additionally, the limit for online spending has been lowered from 2,000 to 1,000 points.
Reward points will no longer be granted for these types of expenses:
– Toll and Bridge Payments
– Gift Purchases
– Jewelry Purchases
– Payments to Educational Institutions
– Utility Bill Payments made outside the PhonePe app
– Insurance Premium Payments made outside the PhonePe app
– UPI Transactions conducted outside the PhonePe app
What will stay the same as before?
SBI Card has confirmed that aside from the adjustments in reward points limits and eligibility, all other features and benefits of the card remain unchanged.
What should cardholders do?
If you hold the PhonePe SBI Credit Card, it’s advisable to adjust your spending habits according to the new regulations that will take effect on July 1, 2026. Customers who spend on categories such as insurance, utility bills, education fees, and jewelry may now earn fewer reward points than they did previously. Therefore, understanding the new guidelines is crucial to maximizing the card’s benefits.
