If you take a seriously injured person to the hospital on time, the government will not only honor you but will also add a ₹25,000 honorarium to your pocket.
Wonder of the Golden Hour
Most deaths in road accidents are due to a lack of timely and proper treatment. According to doctors, the first hour immediately after an accident is called the “Golden Hour.” If the injured person is taken to the hospital during this time, their chances of survival increase manifold.
Excessive bleeding or internal injuries can prove fatal within one hour, and this new initiative by the Delhi government is designed to utilize this precious time effectively. The government wants ordinary citizens to step forward as “angels.” Anyone who transports an injured person to a trauma center within this golden hour will be eligible for a cash prize and a citation.
Direct earnings ranging from ₹25,000 to ₹100,000
Under the Central Government’s “Rahaveer” scheme, the benefits for helpers in Delhi have been kept attractive enough to encourage people to come forward for humanitarian reasons. For each incident, the helper will receive a cash award of ₹25,000 and a citation. Even if multiple people contribute to a single incident, a maximum of ₹25,000 will be distributed per incident.
Additionally, the government will annually select 10 individuals nationally who have displayed exceptional courage and saved lives, and they will be awarded a special national award of ₹100,000. This award will be transferred directly to your bank account, ensuring a completely transparent process.
Fear of Police and Interrogation
The biggest strength of this scheme is that the person helping will no longer have to visit the police station or face any legal complications. Under the Supreme Court’s “Good Samaritan” rules, no personal information will be sought from the person who helps someone reach the hospital without their consent.
The police cannot force you to testify, nor can the hospital administration ask you to pay an initial deposit for treatment. Now, instead of fearing an investigation, you will receive government incentives, as the administration aims to create a sensitive society where humanity transcends legal documents and every injured person receives timely treatment.
Process for receiving the reward amount
The reward process has been simplified so that any volunteer doesn’t have to run around government offices. When you take an injured person to the hospital, the doctor there will verify that the patient was brought in on time. The hospital administration will then send your information to the District Magistrate (DM) or the relevant committee, who will review your good deed.
Upon confirmation, you will be awarded the reward amount and a certificate of appreciation. The government wants people to come forward without hesitation, as a small gesture can save someone’s home from destruction. Now, the government is financially supporting you in this noble cause.
