The public sector India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) will now allow Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) pensioners to submit digital life certificates from the comfort of their homes. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the two institutions. This partnership will provide significant relief to millions of pensioners across the country, as they will no longer need to visit a bank or EPFO office to submit their certificates.

Digital Life Certificates Now Available at Home
Under the new system, EPFO pensioners will be able to submit Digital Life Certificates (DLCs) from the comfort of their homes. IPPB will provide this service through its network of over 1.65 lakh post offices and approximately 300,000 postal workers (postmen and rural postal workers). All these employees will be equipped with modern banking equipment, including face recognition and fingerprint-based biometric systems.
Pension verification is required every year
According to EPFO rules, pensioners are required to submit a life certificate every year to ensure continued pension payments. Previously, pensioners had to visit a bank branch or EPFO office for this process. However, the Digital Life Certificate system has made this process completely online and easy.
Doorstep DLC Service Launched in 2020
IPPB launched the doorstep digital life certificate service with Aadhaar-enabled biometric verification in 2020. Now, with the new agreement system, this service has been formalized and expanded. Pensioners can visit their nearest post office or contact the postman/rural postal worker in their area. They will need to provide their Aadhaar number and pension details for the identification process.

This will save time and relieve elderly pensioners from the hassle of travelling.
