A driver’s license (DL) is today the most important proof of your identity and legal right to drive. Renewing a DL used to be a daunting task, involving long lines at the RTO and hassles with agents. However, the Indian government has now made it completely online, making it incredibly easy.
If you have the necessary documents and internet access, you can renew your DL from the comfort of your home, saving you both time and money. This facility is a boon for anyone whose license is about to expire. Let’s learn how you can maintain your driving freedom for a nominal fee of just ₹400.
When is DL Renewal Necessary

Generally, a driving license in India is valid for 20 years, but the rules change after you reach the age of 40. Regular renewal becomes mandatory after 40 years to ensure safety and fitness.Important rules regarding validity.
After the age of 40: License validity is 10 years, after which renewal is required.

Relief even after expiry
Even if your driving license has expired, there’s no need to panic. It remains valid for 30 days after the expiry date. You can easily apply for DL renewal during this grace period without any penalty. However, if you apply after a year of your DL’s validity expiring, you may need to obtain a new license and take a driving test.
