But can you imagine a new Toyota SUV coming to challenge Maruti in its own game: “excellent mileage”? Yes, it’s about to become a reality. According to media reports, Toyota is preparing to launch a new hybrid SUV in India that boasts record-breaking mileage of over 30 km/liter.
How to achieve 30+ km/liter mileage
If you haven’t guessed yet, let us tell you that this miracle vehicle is going to be none other than the Toyota Taisor Hybrid. As we know, Maruti Suzuki is currently rigorously testing a new hybrid version of its most popular coupe-SUV, the Fronx Hybrid. Since the Toyota Taser is essentially a sister model to the Fronx and has shared all its components, the new Taser is almost certain to feature Maruti’s all-new hybrid powertrain.
This technology will be based on the 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine developed by Maruti, also seen in the recently launched new Dzire. It is an Atkinson Cycle engine. In this unique series hybrid setup, the engine doesn’t directly turn the wheels, but instead acts as a generator to continuously charge the car’s massive battery pack.
A powerful electric motor and battery pack work together to turn the wheels. The biggest advantage is that unlike traditional electric vehicles (EVs), you don’t have to worry about taking it to a charging station for hours to charge, and you get the best mileage possible from every drop of petrol.
Premium Cabin and New-Age Features
The Toyota Taser Hybrid will not only be revolutionary in terms of its engine, but its cabin will also feature several major changes and premium features. The company is going to significantly upgrade its interior to keep it fresh with new technology.
Inside the car, you will find a larger and more advanced touchscreen infotainment system than ever before, supporting wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. For driver convenience, it will also feature a new fully digital driver display (Instrument Cluster).
Most importantly, due to strong customer demand, this new hybrid model may also include a single-pane electric sunroof for the first time. Additionally, the car will continue to offer essential features like a wireless smartphone charger, a 360-degree camera, a head-up display (HUD), and six airbags for safety.
Launch Timeline and Expected Price
Maruti’s new series-hybrid technology is expected to be manufactured at a significantly lower cost than Toyota’s existing hybrid technology. This will allow Toyota to launch this upcoming SUV at a very affordable and aggressive price.
As for launch, the Toyota Taisor Hybrid is expected to hit Indian roads in early 2027, making it the first Toyota vehicle to feature this new affordable technology. The current top-spec Taser starts at around ₹15.28 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). With the addition of features like the advanced hybrid engine and a new sunroof, its expected price is expected to be around ₹16 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
