Through this program, the central government offers financial support ranging from Rs 120,000 to Rs 300,000 to economically weaker sections (EWS), low-income groups (LIG), and rural poor families for building or repairing homes. Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this scheme is active in every state and district across the country, allowing eligible beneficiaries to apply online with ease. It’s specifically aimed at families who either don’t own a home or are living in kutcha houses. The application process is fully online, making it super convenient for people to apply from the comfort of their homes without needing to visit any office.

What is PM Awas Yojana?

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana was introduced in 2015 with the goal of providing a pucca house to every poor individual by 2025. The scheme is split into two segments – PMAY-Urban (for urban areas) and PMAY-Gramin (for rural areas). For PMAY-Gramin, financial aid of Rs 120,000 is available for house construction in rural regions. In hilly and challenging areas, this amount goes up to Rs 130,000.

In urban settings, this financial support is also offered along with an interest subsidy on bank loans, which can reach up to 6.5%. This scheme gives special priority to women, persons with disabilities, and families from Scheduled Castes/Tribes to help them become part of mainstream society. Beneficiaries are chosen based on SECC (Socio Economic Caste Census) data.

Eligibility for PM Awas Yojana

1. This scheme is only available to families who meet the criteria set by the government. Applicants must be Indian citizens and must not own a permanent home.
