Vaibhav Suryavanshi broke Virat Kohli’s record in just his second match of the Under-19 World Cup 2026, and now there’s a possibility that Shubman Gill’s record isn’t safe either. Meaning, just as Suryavanshi surpassed Virat’s record, he’ll likely surpass Gill’s as well.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi can soon break Shubman Gill’s record in the international cricket stage
Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill were currently busy playing in the ODI series against New Zealand. Under Gill’s captaincy, India lost the three-match ODI series against New Zealand 1-2. The Virat Kohli record that Vaibhav Suryavanshi broke, and the Shubman Gill record that he is on the verge of breaking, are both linked to their performances in Under-19 ODIs.

This means Gill is currently 102 runs ahead, and this gap is not so great that Vaibhav Suryavanshi cannot overtake him. It is possible that Vaibhav may overtake Gill by scoring a century in the next match against the New Zealand Under-19 team or by the end of the group stage.
