Major Revelation in PM Awas Yojana – 17,000 Ineligible Applicants Removed, Check the List

PM Awas Yojana Update: The government is continuously striving to provide permanent homes to the poor under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural), but some ineligible individuals are trying to take undue advantage of this scheme. As soon as the self-survey facility was introduced last year, many people who already owned a permanent house also applied. So far, 17,046 such ineligible applicants have been identified in the district, and their names have been removed from the PM Awas Yojana list. In addition, more than 43,000 applications are currently under investigation.

Last year, an online survey was conducted to select eligible beneficiaries under the PM Awas Yojana (Rural). This process allowed people to upload their own information and house photos on the portal. During this period, approximately 1.63 lakh applications were received from the district. After online verification, about 61,000 of these applications were found to be suspicious and are currently under investigation.

During the investigation, a large number of ineligible applicants have come to light in different blocks. In the Holagarh block, about six thousand applications were received, of which 2,700 were found to belong to people who already owned a permanent house. The names of all such applicants have been removed from the list. In the Jasra block, out of 5,300 applications, 681 ineligible applicants have been identified and removed from the list so far. Similarly, in the Chaka block, 535 such applications were found where the applicants already owned a permanent house. Their names have also been removed. According to officials, these figures are only examples, and investigations are still ongoing in several blocks.

A similar situation has been observed in other blocks of the district, including Karchhana, Pratapgarh, Shankargarh, Soraon, Bhagwatpur, and Manda. In every area, thousands of people have been found who, despite being ineligible, wanted to avail the benefits of the PM Awas Yojana. As the investigation progresses, these applicants are being removed from the list. During the self-survey, applicants were asked to upload pictures of their कच्चा (temporary) houses or huts to the portal.

These applications were then reviewed using artificial intelligence (AI). The AI flagged applications as suspicious if the pictures showed permanent walls or concrete roof slabs. Subsequent investigations revealed a large number of ineligible applicants among these flagged cases.

Bhupendra Singh, Project Director of the District Rural Development Agency, stated that the verification of suspicious applications under the PM Awas Yojana (Prime Minister’s Housing Scheme) is ongoing. He clarified that the purpose of this process is to ensure that no eligible person is deprived of the scheme’s benefits and that no ineligible person receives benefits fraudulently.
