Toyota Fortuner Mild Hybrid: The new Toyota Fortuner mild hybrid (MHEV) SUV has been introduced in the South African market. This model has a 2.8 liter diesel engine equipped with 48V mild hybrid technology and an electric motor generator. The same setup is also found in the HiLux lifestyle pickup truck available in the global market. With the help of this mild hybrid system, the total power output becomes 201bhp and torque 500Nm. Out of this, 16bhp power and 42Nm torque is available only from the electric motor.

The company claims that this mild hybrid system has no impact on the off-roading and towing capabilities of the vehicle. It will have torque assist, regenerative braking and smooth start/stop function. Additionally, Toyota says that this new system increases the Fortuner’s fuel efficiency by 5 percent compared to its diesel-only version. Both 2WD and 4WD drivetrains are available in this vehicle. The Toyota Fortuner MHEV comes with a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

This ADAS system is equipped with many features, such as Lane Departure Alert, Pre-Collision System, Lane Traversing Assist, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Road Sign Assist, Automatic High Beam and Proactive Driving Assist etc.

Will the new Toyota Fortuner MHEV come to India?

The old Fortuner may be replaced by a new model arriving by the end of this year. This new Fortuner can be seen on Indian roads as early as 2025. Based on Toyota’s TNGA-F platform, this SUV will have a newly designed grille, which may have vertical air intakes, modified headlamps and bumpers. There may also be square shaped fog lamps on its bumper.

The new Fortuner is likely to get new alloy wheels, updated tail lamps and rear bumper. The Fortuner coming to India may come with the existing 2.8 liter turbo diesel engine. However, according to media reports, mild hybrid technology can also be given in it.
