Team India’s star batsman Virat Kohli may have been rested against Saurashtra after playing two consecutive matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26, but he will return for the fourth match. Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) president Rohan Jaitley said on Monday, December 29, 2025, that Virat Kohli will take the field against Railways on January 6. This match will also be played at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (BCE) in Bengaluru.

When and with whom will Delhi’s next match be played?

Under the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) new rules, all players with central contracts are required to participate in at least two matches of the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy. Virat wants to play his third match to prepare for the home series against New Zealand, which begins on January 11. DDCA President Rohan Jaitley told PTI, “At present, he is playing. Virat has given his availability for three matches.”

Virat Kohli was in excellent form in the first two matches he played for Delhi in the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy , scoring 131 and 77 runs respectively. During this period, he also set the record for the fewest innings in List A cricket to reach 16,000 runs. Kohli reached this milestone in his 330th innings, surpassing legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar. Tendulkar had achieved this feat in 391 innings.

India-New Zealand ODI series from January 11

A BCCI source said that the Indian ODI team will arrive in Vadodara by January 8, 2026, for the home series against New Zealand, but Virat Kohli may arrive a day earlier for practice. The three-match ODI series against New Zealand will begin at the same venue on January 11.
