It could have been a brilliant double century for young Yashasvi Jaiswal. But only for few more runs, he had to return to the pavilion. A miscommunication with captain Shubman Gill cost Jaiswal a double hundred during India vs West Indies 2nd Test series in Delhi.
Yashasvi Jaiswal played a brilliant innings and scored a powerful century on the first day of the second Test against the West Indies. At the end of the day, he was unbeaten on 173. Jaiswal’s consistent form and consistent batting had everyone confident he would reach a double century. However, he was run out on the second day, adding two more runs to his score.
The ninth over was bowled by Jaden Seals for the West Indies. Yashasvi Jaiswal played the second ball of the over, driving the ball powerfully and immediately taking off for a run. He was almost at the non-strike end of Shubman Gill, who signaled him to stop. Jaiswal hurriedly ran back with the same speed, but it was too late. The fielder threw the ball to the wicketkeeper, who, without making any mistake, scattered the stumps. If Gill had run for the run himself instead of stopping Jaiswal with a hand signal, the run might have been completed comfortably and Jaiswal wouldn’t have been run out. But that wasn’t the case. His mistake proved costly.
Yashasvi Jaiswal appeared furious afterward, unable to comprehend what had happened. Gill and Jaiswal then exchanged words. Jaiswal appeared disappointed at not achieving his double century, and the stadium fell silent. He then walked back to the dressing room with his head bowed. He scored a total of 175 runs in 258 balls, including 22 fours.
