Retirements of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara

Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Test cricket on May 7. Putting an end to his 11-year-long Test career, Rohit confirmed via social media that he will continue to represent India in ODI cricket. His decision came just before India’s five-match Test series against England, after which the selectors appointed Shubman Gill as the new Test captain. Rohit had previously retired from T20 Internationals after leading India to the T20 World Cup victory in 2024.

As captain, Rohit led India in 24 Tests after taking over from Virat Kohli in 2022, in which the team registered 12 wins and 9 losses.

Virat Kohli retired from Test cricket on May 12, ending a 14-year-long illustrious career. According to Kohli, retiring from Test cricket was difficult, but the decision felt right. Considered one of the greatest batsmen of all time, Kohli scored 9230 runs in 123 Test matches, including 30 centuries, and averaged 46.85. Cheteshwar Pujara has announced his retirement from all forms of Indian cricket. In a social media post, the 37-year-old Pujara described wearing the Indian jersey as the greatest honor of his life.Pujara, who made his debut in 2010, played 103 Tests and five ODIs for India. Pujara, who played as India’s number three batsman for nearly a decade, scored 7,195 runs in Test cricket, including 19 centuries and 35 half-centuries. His Test average was 43.60, while his home average was over 52.
