Indian captains who won World Cup
There are a total of four captains who have led Team India to World Cup victories in international cricket, including three men and now one woman. Three players have won the ODI World Cup, and one has won the T20 World Cup. There is also one captain who has won both titles for India. Kapil Dev was the captain who led India to its first World Cup title. The Indian cricket team defeated the West Indies in the 1983 World Cup final. Rohit Sharma became the third Indian captain to lead his country to a World Cup trophy. Under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, Team India won the 2024 T20 World Cup final, defeating South Africa. He was the second Indian captain to lead the country to a T20 World Cup trophy.
Harmanpreet Kaur has become the first Indian woman captain to win the Cricket World Cup. She is also the fourth Indian to lift a World Cup trophy in international cricket. The Indian team, captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, defeated South Africa in the final of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025.
