India faced heavy loss after Kolkata Test defeat, they are now in this spot of WTC points table

The Indian team suffered a 30-run defeat in the first match of the two-match Test series against South Africa. On the third day of the first match at the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata, India were set a target of 124 runs in the fourth innings, after which the Indian team’s second innings was reduced to a score of just 93 runs, and they suffered a crushing defeat. With this defeat, Team India has also suffered a significant loss in the points table of the fourth edition of the World Test Championship, where it has now slipped to fourth place.

Indian team now has this many points in WTC

Before the start of the two-match Test series against South Africa, Team India was ranked third in the World Test Championship 2025-27 points table. After losing the Kolkata Test, Team India has now fallen to fourth, with a total point percentage of 54.17. Team India has played a total of eight matches in this WTC cycle, winning four and losing three. On the other hand, the South African team benefited significantly from their victory in the Kolkata Test, moving them from fourth to second. Of the three matches they have played so far in this WTC cycle, they have won two and lost one. Consequently, their points percentage currently stands at 66.67.

Australia ranked number one

If we look at the position of other teams in the points table of the fourth edition of the World Test Championship, then the Australian team is at number one with 100 points percentage. Apart from this, Sri Lanka is at number three with 66.67 points percentage, whereas Pakistan’s team is at number five with 50 points percentage. England’s team is at number six, whose total points percentage is 43.33. Apart from this, Bangladesh, West Indies and New Zealand are at the last three positions, out of which only the Kiwi team has not played a single match in this WTC cycle so far.

Summary of Day 3

South Africa began the third day’s play at 93/7. South African captain Temba Bavuma scored a brilliant half-century in the second innings, but the rest of the team’s batsmen failed to make a significant impact. Bavuma top-scored for the team with 55 runs, while Corbin Bosch contributed 25 runs from 37 balls. Regarding Team India’s batting, Washington Sundar scored the most runs for the team in the second innings. In the end, Axar Patel tried to lead the team to victory with some big shots, but he failed to do so. He was ultimately dismissed for 26 runs from 17 balls. Simon Harmer took the most wickets for South Africa in the second innings. The third day’s play was completely dominated by South Africa.
