Weather Warning: Weather conditions across the country are changing rapidly. With four cyclonic circulations active simultaneously, several states are expected to experience significant impacts. The Meteorological Department predicts that an upper-air cyclonic circulation persists over eastern Bangladesh and surrounding areas at the lower-tropospheric level. Even after the monsoon season ends, rainfall continues in several states. In many states, the cold weather is intensifying. Heavy rain was observed across the country in 2025, and similar conditions are expected in 2026. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued an alert for heavy rain in several states across the country for the next two days.

A subtropical westerly jet stream is present over Northwest India at an altitude of 12.6 kilometres, with a core wind speed of approximately 150 knots. An upper-air cyclonic circulation is also present over the southeastern Arabian Sea and the adjoining south-Kerala coast. Additionally, another cyclonic circulation is active over the southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal.

Hailstorm Warning in These States

Due to the influence of these systems, hailstorms are likely to occur in isolated areas of Meghalaya on January 3, 2026. The Meteorological Department has predicted rain and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad on January 5 and 6. Rain and snowfall are also likely in Himachal Pradesh on January 6.

Dense Fog Warning in These States
An alert has been issued for dense fog in Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh until January 7. Thick fog is also expected in western Uttar Pradesh until January 5, eastern Uttar Pradesh until January 8, eastern Rajasthan until January 4, and Odisha until January 6. Several other states will also experience fog on different dates.

Heavy rain warning issued for these states:
Rain continues intermittently in Karnataka. Now, the weather in Karnataka is expected to change. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert that heavy rainfall is likely in many parts of Karnataka over the next two days. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for several states due to the possibility of heavy rainfall over the next two days. According to the Meteorological Department’s alert, heavy rain is expected in Kerala, Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Karaikal over the next two days. In Meghalaya, there is a possibility of hail and rain over the next two days. The Meteorological Department also predicts heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh over the next two days.
