New Delhi: The intense cold wave in North India is now affecting the daily lives of ordinary people, causing considerable hardship. People in Uttar Pradesh are also suffering from the severe cold. The Uttar Pradesh government has declared a holiday for secondary schools. Schools from classes 9th to 12th will now remain closed until January 5th due to the cold weather.

Holidays for primary schools had already been declared. Students can now comfortably prepare for their exams at home. If the severe cold continues, the holidays for both primary and secondary schools may be extended further. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued guidelines regarding the school closures.

Strict Instructions to Officials

Secondary schools were open on January 2nd, 2026, but considering the cold winds and dense fog, the government extended the holidays. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued directives to close all schools up to class 12th, including those affiliated with ICSE, CBSE, and the UP Board, until January 5th.

Meanwhile, the Director of Secondary Education, Dr Mahendra Dev, and the Director of Basic Education, Pratap Singh Baghel, have issued instructions for holidays until January 5th for all schools from classes 1 to 8 across all boards.
