income tax department Update: If you are a taxpayer, this news will prove very useful to you. The central government has decided to extend the house tax interest waiver scheme until June 30, 2026. Under this scheme, a full waiver is being offered on the current year’s tax, while a 10% relief provision applies to outstanding taxes due before the 2026-27 period.
Despite this, there appears to be little interest among the public in paying the house tax. According to the Municipal Council, over 55 individuals have been identified who owe more than ₹1 lakh in outstanding dues.

List Being Prepared
Did you know that a list of such defaulters is also being compiled? Deputy Municipal Commissioner Dr Pankaj Yadav stated that there are over 18,000 house tax records in Samalkha. He warned that the names of those who fail to pay their taxes by June 30 would be made public, and action would be taken to seize their properties.
Secretary Prince Mehndiratta noted that various institutions also have significant outstanding dues; these include HVPNL (₹55 lakh), the Education Board (₹31 lakh), FCI (₹27 lakh), and the Railways (₹13 lakh), among others. The Municipal Council has appealed to the public to pay their taxes on time.
