monsoon update: According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rainfall alerts have been issued for several states across the country. Weather patterns appear to have shifted significantly. In its latest bulletin, the IMD stated that as of today, June 5, 2026, the Southwest Monsoon has advanced further into parts of the west-central and east-central Arabian Sea, as well as parts of Goa, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.
Winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph are expected in Uttarakhand on June 6; heavy rain alerts have also been issued for specific areas. Skies over Delhi-NCR have remained overcast since this morning, offering residents some relief from the heat.
According to the IMD, heavy rainfall (7–20 cm) is highly likely at isolated places in Kerala and Karnataka, as well as in Tamil Nadu, over the next seven days. Furthermore, extremely heavy rainfall may occur at isolated locations in Kerala on June 6 and 7. Warning of Thunderstorms and Strong Winds in Plains
The IMD has issued alerts for thunderstorms, lightning, and winds gusting at 50–60 kmph today for Eastern Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, and Western Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, alerts have been issued for strong winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph in Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, and Eastern Uttar Pradesh on June 6.

Rainfall activity is expected to intensify in Northeast India over the coming days. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for rain and thunderstorms in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on June 7. Additionally, rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and winds gusting at 40–50 kmph is likely in several areas of Assam and Meghalaya on June 6 and 7. Heavy rainfall is expected in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya on June 10.

Rainfall in Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha
Rain and thunderstorms are likely to continue across several states in Eastern India over the next few days. According to the Meteorological Department, isolated heavy rainfall is expected in parts of West Bengal and Sikkim between June 5 and 8. Rainfall is also anticipated in Jharkhand (June 6–7), Bihar (June 6 and June 7–10), and Odisha (June 6–10).
Rainfall in Northwest India
The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for heavy rain in the Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad region on June 6. Scattered or isolated rainfall is likely in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Punjab on June 5–7 and June 11. Furthermore, light rainfall is expected in parts of Western Rajasthan (June 5–7), Eastern Rajasthan (June 5–11), and the Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad region (June 7–11).
Possibility of Rain and Hailstorms in Central India
According to the Meteorological Department, strong winds are expected in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Vidarbha, with speeds potentially reaching 50–60 kmph. Thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds are likely in Western Madhya Pradesh on June 5–6 and in Chhattisgarh on June 6–7.
