Tatkal Passport Eligibility – Sometimes urgent travel arises, and people need their passports quickly. For such cases, the government offers the Tatkal passport service. However, not everyone is allowed to apply under this fast-track scheme. The Ministry of External Affairs has clearly listed several categories ineligible for a fresh Tatkal passport.

Citizens Granted Citizenship by the Home Ministry are Not Eligible

According to official guidelines, Indian residents who obtained citizenship directly from the Union Home Ministry are not eligible to apply for a fresh Tatkal passport. Such applicants must apply only under the standard scheme.

Adopted Children Cannot Apply Under Tatkal.

Children adopted by Indian or foreign parents are also not eligible for the Tatkal scheme. Their passport applications require additional verification and, therefore, cannot be processed through fast-track services.

Children Born Outside Marriage Also Excluded

A child born outside a marriage, with only one parent listed in the documents, is ineligible to apply for a Tatkal passport. These cases require more rigorous verification and therefore fall outside the expedited scheme.

Surrogacy-Born Children Not Eligible for Fast-Track Passports

The rules also state that children born through surrogacy cannot apply for a fresh Tatkal passport. Their documentation requires detailed scrutiny, which cannot be completed under the Tatkal timelines.

Minors with a Deceased Parent are Also Restricted

Minor applicants with only one surviving parent (the other parent has passed away) are also ineligible for a Tatkal passport. Such applications must be processed under the normal category due to mandatory verification requirements.
