Patna News: A major boat accident occurred this morning—Thursday, May 28—in the barh subdivision, located adjacent to Patna, the capital of Bihar. A small boat carrying 14 passengers capsized due to strong winds shortly after departing from the Umanath Ganga Ghat. Following the accident, seven individuals have been safely rescued.
The incident has caused chaos and panic in the area. Fears are mounting that several people who were on board the boat may have drowned. Currently, a search operation for four missing individuals is underway.
Upon receiving news of the incident, Barh Station House Officer (SHO) Brajkishore Singh, CDPO Ramkrishna, SDM Garima Lohia, and Circle Officer Dr Narendra Kumar Singh rushed to the scene. Relief and rescue operations are proceeding rapidly, and a team from the SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) has also been summoned to the site.
Seven Lives Saved
The scene remains chaotic in the aftermath of the accident. Local boatmen present in the vicinity demonstrated great promptness and successfully rescued seven individuals. However, news regarding the potential drowning of the remaining passengers has cast a pall of gloom over the area. During the rescue operation, the bodies of one woman and one young man were recovered from the river. The search for five other individuals is still ongoing.
Upon learning of the accident, many local residents gathered at the Umanath Ganga Ghat. Deep anxiety regarding the safety of their loved ones was clearly visible among the crowd. The administration is continuously conducting relief operations, and surveillance along the riverbank has been intensified. Meanwhile, the administration has appealed to the public to disregard rumours and to cooperate fully with the ongoing rescue efforts.
