JDU candidate Anant Singh arrested for murder of Dularchand Yadav ahead of Bihar elections

New Delhi: The Bihar Assembly elections are in full swing across the country, with all eyes focused on the constituency. The most talked-about constituency in Bihar is the Mokama Assembly constituency. Five-time MLA from Mokama, Anant Singh, was arrested late last night by police in connection with the murder of Jan Suraj Party leader Dular Chand Yadav. He will be produced in court today.

Police claimed that Anant Singh was present at the scene when Dular Chand Yadav was murdered. The post-mortem report also confirmed that Dular Chand Yadav died from a gunshot wound to the leg. Previously, Dular Chand Yadav has been giving explanations. In fact, Dular Chand Yadav died while campaigning for Jan Suraj Party candidate Piyush Priyadarshi from his village. His grandson has alleged that Anant Singh murdered his grandfather.

Anant Singh is considered a criminal. He has numerous cases registered against him. He has also served as a five-time MLA from Mokama. He is also known locally as Chhote Sarkar. He won the 2020 election on a Rashtriya Janata Dal ticket. This time, he left the RJD and is contesting on a JDU ticket.

Born in Nadwan village in Barh, Patna district, Bihar, Anant Singh won his first election in 2005 from Mokama on a JDU ticket. Known as Chhote Sarkar, Anant Singh has been switching parties from time to time.

In the affidavit filed with the Returning Officer along with his nomination papers, Anant Singh declared that he has movable assets worth ₹26.66 crore and immovable assets worth ₹11.22 crore. According to a report, 28 criminal cases are registered against Anant Singh, also known as Chhote Sarkar.

When will the first election be held?

Voting will be held in two phases for all 243 seats in the Bihar Assembly elections. The first phase of voting will take place on November 6th and the second phase on November 11th. The results will be declared on November 14th, 2025. This election is expected to be a decisive one.

This is the first election to be held after a special, in-depth revision of the voter list. According to political pundits, the main contest will be between the NDA and the Grand Alliance. The Jan Suraj Party is also making the contest interesting in some seats.
