Iran-Israel Conflict – Where Will India Source Oil Amidst US Sanctions? know

New Delhi: The situation in the Middle East continues to worsen amid the ongoing war between the US, Israel, and Iran, creating a critical situation. Iran’s crude oil trade is also being disrupted, as traders are reluctant to take risks due to the bombings all around. In such a scenario, India can compensate for its crude oil needs from Russia.

The implication is that the Indian and Russian crude oil market is set to expand further. The US has taken a significant decision and granted Russia a temporary exemption to sell oil to India for 30 days. This will provide relief to Russian oil ships stranded at sea for months, facing a shortage of buyers.

It has been reported that the US has granted permission to sell Russian oil stranded at sea to India to ease pressure on the global oil market amid the Iran war. This is a temporary 30-day exemption and is expected to remain the same even if the situation improves.

US officials informed

According to Reuters, two senior US officials said on Thursday that Washington has approved a 30-day waiver to allow shipments to proceed despite existing sanctions-related restrictions on Russia’s energy sector.

Meanwhile, the US had threatened various countries not to buy Russian oil after the Ukraine war broke out. Western countries also imposed sanctions on Moscow. However, India had emerged as one of the largest buyers of Russian oil. Despite Trump’s threats, India continued to buy Russian oil. It also sent a clear message that India would decide where to buy its oil from.

Russian ships will be seen speeding at sea.

Russian oil ships had been idle at sea for several days. Russia had suffered significant losses due to the sharp decline in oil trade. Russian oil tankers were stranded at sea because their oil could not be unloaded immediately due to new US sanctions and uncertainty over payment and insurance.

The US imposed strict sanctions on some shipping companies and tankers involved in transporting Russian oil. This raised questions about insurance, payments, and port entry for many ships. Indian refiners also began to wait to see if purchasing oil would be against regulations. Therefore, ships were held at sea for some time.
