Monsoon Update – Heavy Rain & Hailstorm Warning for 10 States Next 72 Hours

Heavy Rainfall Alert: Weather across the country is set to change this week. In several states, maximum temperatures have already exceeded 42 degrees. Meanwhile, the IMD (India Meteorological Department) has issued an alert for very heavy rainfall in several states. Additionally, warnings have been issued regarding thunderstorms, strong winds, and hailstorms in various regions. The Meteorological Department has issued alerts due to the likelihood of very heavy rain, storms, and hailstorms in several areas and has advised the public to remain vigilant.

  • Heatwave Warning — Northwest and Central India are bracing for heatwave conditions over the next two days, with cities like Lucknow (43°C) and Bhopal (42°C) already recording extreme temperatures.
  • Heavy Rainfall Alert — IMD has issued heavy to very heavy rainfall warnings for Northeast states including Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from April 27 – May 1.
  • Hailstorm Alert — Jharkhand and North Interior Karnataka on hailstorm watch on April 26–27; West Bengal, Bihar, and Odisha expecting strong winds (30–50 km/h) with moderate rain.

The Meteorological Department has stated that heatwave conditions are likely to prevail over Northwest and Central India during the next two days. This week, thunderstorms with lightning and rain are expected in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and Northeast India. Alerts for heavy rainfall at isolated places have been issued for these regions—Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and Northeast India—for the duration of this week.

The Meteorological Department has also forecast rain accompanied by thunderstorms in East India; in Northwest India between April 28 and May 1; in Central India between April 27 and 29; and in South Peninsular India between April 28 and 30.

Possibility of Heavy Rainfall in These States
According to the Meteorological Department, an alert for heavy rainfall has been issued for Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh for the period between April 27 and May 1. Rain is likely throughout this week in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Warnings for heavy to very heavy rainfall have been issued for several places within these regions.

Hailstorm Alert for Jharkhand
Alerts regarding hailstorms accompanied by thunderstorms have been issued for the eastern state of Jharkhand and the southern region of North Interior Karnataka for April 26 and 27. Furthermore, alerts have been issued for West Bengal, Bihar, and Odisha, anticipating winds gusting at 30–50 km/h and light to moderate rainfall.

 

 UP Weather Update

In UP, the heat has once again begun to make its presence felt today. The Meteorological Department has also issued a warning regarding rising temperatures in certain parts of Western UP today. A rain alert has been issued for the entire state, spanning from April 29th to May 1st. The IMD has warned of thunderstorms and rain in Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, Bijnor, Moradabad, Bareilly, Badaun, Jhansi, Sambhal, Rampur, and Mainpuri.

What will the weather be like in the hills?
A rain warning has been issued for several districts from April 26th to April 28th. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert today for Chamoli, Bageshwar, Almora, Pithoragarh, Nainital, and Tehri Garhwal, anticipating rain and thunderstorms. Furthermore, the rainfall in the hills could offer some relief from the heat. Meanwhile, there is a possibility of rain in Himachal Pradesh. The Meteorological Department has issued a rain alert today for Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Shimla, Kinnaur, and Mandi.
