What is Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana? Rs 56,000 will be given

Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana: The government is making significant progress in securing the education and financial stability of girls in Delhi. On March 2nd, during a special event in the capital, funds from the Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana will be deposited into the accounts of thousands of girls. This occasion will also serve as the official launch of the Delhi Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana. According to the government, this initiative goes beyond just financial support; it is a crucial step towards granting girls access to higher education and fostering their independence.

President Draupadi Murmu will be present at this event. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta mentioned that a substantial number of beneficiary daughters will receive funds directly in their bank accounts. Now, let’s delve into the details of the Delhi government’s Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana and the amount of money that will be credited to the girls’ accounts.

How much money will girls receive under the Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana?

As per the Delhi government, 40,642 girls whose accounts are registered under the Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana will collectively receive Rs 100 crore directly in their bank accounts. This sum reflects the interest-bearing deposits made throughout various stages of their education. Officials have clarified that this amount varies for each individual, as many beneficiaries were registered later rather than at birth. Under this government initiative, Rs 56,000 will be deposited in each girl’s name at different stages.

How did the Ladli scheme evolve into the Lakhpati Bitiya scheme?

The Ladli Yojana, which was introduced in 2008, aimed to ensure that daughters’ education remained uninterrupted. Under this program, a fixed sum was deposited at birth, followed by installments in grades 1, 6, 9, 10, and 12. This amount could be accessed when the individual turned 18. This scheme has now been enhanced and transformed into the Delhi Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana. Under the new framework, a total of Rs 56,000 will be deposited into daughters’ accounts. With the addition of interest, this amount is projected to surpass Rs 1 lakh by the time they reach 21 years of age.

Who will get the benefit of this scheme?

This scheme will benefit families with an annual income of less than Rs 1.20 lakh and who have lived in Delhi for the past three years. To benefit from the scheme, the daughter must have been born in Delhi. A maximum of two daughters per family will be eligible. Registration can be done within one year of birth or within the prescribed educational stages. Furthermore, fulfilling the requirements related to higher education is mandatory.
