Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express Extended to Jammu

At present, two Vande Bharat Express trains run between Katra and Srinagar. These services will be extended to Jammu, with updated schedules to be provided by the Railway Department. Initially, the launch date for the direct train between Jammu and Srinagar was set for March 1, 2026, but this has since been postponed.

Tourism will receive a boost

Railway officials indicate that this service will not only offer convenience to the public but also significantly enhance trade, tourism, and the local economy. This initiative is viewed as a crucial step in further integrating Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of the nation.

The dream of rail connectivity between Kashmir and the rest of the country had been pending for over a century, but it became a reality when Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off a train from Katra town to Srinagar on June 6, 2025. On the same day, the Prime Minister also inaugurated the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, providing all-weather rail connectivity to the valley.
