Vande Bharat Sleeper Update: Big news for railway passengers. The launch of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train, one of Indian Railways ‘ most popular projects, has been pushed back from December 2024. The Railway Ministry cited complex changes to the train ‘s design and supply chain issues as the main reasons. No new launch date has been announced yet .

The Railway Board wrote to the RDSO and all zonal GMs , pointing out the deficiencies. Sharp edges around the berths , edges on the window screen handles , and pigeon-hole-like spaces between the berth connectors are making cleaning difficult. Only after these deficiencies are addressed will the train be allowed to run at speeds up to 160 km /h.

Every condition of RDSO will be fulfilled

The Ministry has clearly stated that all RDSO requirements must be met. On September 1, 2025, the RDSO sent an update of the improvements , which will be forwarded to the CCRS for approval. Only after this approval will the Vande Bharat Sleeper train be put on the tracks . Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had previously stated that the train would begin operations in October, but the ministry has now clarified that the train will not be opened to passengers until all safety and comfort standards are met. However, the ministry has approved the operation of the 16-coach Vande Bharat sleeper rake, provided all deficiencies are addressed.

The Ministry has issued several important safety guidelines, including the installation of a Kavach 4.0 safety system on trains, adherence to fire safety standards, periodic braking system checks, and ensuring reliable communication between the train driver, guard, and station master. Furthermore, the temperature inside the train will be regulated to suit passengers, ensuring a comfortable environment despite frequent door openings and closings.

For passengers, the train will feature wide berths , Wi-Fi , charging points , Kavach 4.0, fire safety, and trilingual safety announcements. Technology will be installed to maintain the coach temperature even when the door is repeatedly opened. The Railways has promised to address all deficiencies soon, ensuring a comfortable journey for passengers.
