The Madhya Kshetra Vidyut Vitaran Company has benefited more than 83,936 people so far under the Rs 5 New Domestic Electricity Connection Scheme, launched in December 2024. This initiative has made it much easier for people living in remote villages to obtain electricity connections.
Additionally, thanks to the online application and simplified process, people are now able to apply for a connection from the comfort of their homes. According to company officials, after submitting an application, the necessary verification and other formalities are completed and the new electricity connection is provided directly to their homes. This also relieves people from having to make frequent visits to the office.
Which sectors benefited the most?
This scheme has had a significant impact in several districts of the Bhopal region, with thousands of villagers joining the scheme. According to the company, 55,878 people in 9,305 villages across eight districts of the Bhopal region have benefited from it. Meanwhile, in 7,284 villages across eight districts of the Gwalior region, 28,058 rural families have received new electricity connections for Rs 5. The benefits of this scheme are specifically being extended to rural families, farmers, and BPL families, ensuring affordable electricity access to every household.
How is the application and process done?
Consumers apply for this scheme through the company’s “Saral Sanyojan Portal” ( saralsanyojan.mpcz.in ). They upload the required documents and make an online payment of just Rs 5. The department’s team then completes the survey and other procedures to provide the connection.
