Vande Bharat Sleeper Train: Another good news for railway passengers. Until now, we’ve only seen daytime Vande Bharat chair car trains. However, soon, the “Vande Bharat Sleeper” train, featuring air travel-like amenities, will be launched. This train is being designed to reach Delhi in less than 20 hours.

After Kolkata-Guwahati, preparations are underway here. The Railways is making vigorous preparations to launch the country’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper train service on the Kolkata-Guwahati route. This sleeper version is being introduced to make overnight travel easier for long-distance travelers. The states of West Bengal and Assam have strong trade and tourism ties. Currently, travel times between these two cities are long. The Vande Bharat Sleeper train is now available, allowing passengers to reach their destinations in just a few hours.

Preparations underway for Secunderabad-New Delhi train

This semi-high-speed train will significantly enhance connectivity in the northeastern states. If this first service, starting from Kolkata, is successful, the next phase will see these trains introduced on major routes like the Secunderabad-New Delhi route. The government aims to have 12 such sleeper trains available across the country by the end of 2026. This will provide passengers with a cheaper and faster journey than the Rajdhani Express.

What will be the amenities?

Regular Vande Bharat trains only have reclining seats (chair cars). These are suitable for short distances, within 500 to 700 kilometers. However, a long journey (approximately 1700 kilometers) like the one from Secunderabad to Delhi requires the convenience of sleeping overnight. That’s why a sleeper version is being introduced. It will have state-of-the-art AC coaches, airplane-like interiors, better lighting, clean washrooms, and special sensors for passenger safety.

What will be the route?

Currently, Vande Bharat trains are successfully operating on several routes in Telangana. These include Secunderabad – Visakhapatnam, Secunderabad – Tirupati, Kacheguda – Yeshwantpur (Bengaluru), Secunderabad – Nagpur. Significantly, all of these are chair car trains. The new sleeper train will travel from Secunderabad to New Delhi via Kazipet, Balharshah, Nagpur, Bhopal, Jhansi, and Agra.

What will the fare be to Delhi?

This sleeper train is expected to have a total of 16 coaches, including 11 AC 3-tier, 4 AC 2-tier, and one first-class AC coach. According to initial estimates, the fare for AC 3-tier will be Rs 3,600, for AC 2-tier, Rs 4,800, and for first AC, Rs 6,000.
