Chief Minister Mohan Yadav recently announced an increase in the subsidy given to farmers for installing solar pumps from 40 percent to 90 percent. He said that due to the hard work of farmers, the agriculture sector contributes more than 39 percent to the state’s GDP.
What CM has said
Addressing a thanks giving program for farmers associated with the ‘Bhavantar’ scheme for soybean farmers, the Chief Minister said, “Our farmer brothers are the backbone of Madhya Pradesh’s economy. Every decision of the government is taken with their welfare in mind.” The Chief Minister said that the state government is making every possible effort to increase farmers’ income and strengthen their economic condition.
He said, “When water reaches a dry field, the crop turns into gold. We will ensure that every farm in the state gets water.” The Chief Minister said, “Farmers will now receive a 90 percent subsidy for installing solar power pumps, up from 40 percent previously.”
Benefits farmers can receive
Yadav said that farmers will receive solar pumps with a capacity one step higher than their existing pumps – those with 3 HP pumps will receive 5 HP solar pumps, while those with 5 HP pumps will receive 7.5 HP solar pumps. Mohan Yadav appealed to farmers to adopt solar energy to avoid the expense of temporary electricity connections.
Emphasizing the role of agriculture in the state’s economy, Yadav said, “Agriculture contributes more than 39 percent to Madhya Pradesh’s GDP due to the hard work of our farmer brothers.” According to the Chief Minister, the state leads the country in the production of grains, pulses, oilseeds, fruits, and vegetables, and is number one in the production of oranges, spices, garlic, ginger, and coriander. He said the government intends to enhance irrigation facilities through projects linking major rivers, including the Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal with Rajasthan, the Ken-Betwa with Uttar Pradesh, and the Tapi Mega Recharge Project with Maharashtra. The Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister said that farmers are being provided 3.2 million subsidized solar pumps, enabling them to generate surplus electricity and sell it to the government. He said the state has expanded its irrigated area to 5.2 million hectares and has set a target of 10 million hectares.
For the first time, the government has included soybean under the Bhavantar Yojana. Yadav said, “Our intention is to ensure that farmers get their due before their sweat dries up.” He described the scheme as not just a scheme, but a relationship of trust between the government and farmers.
