This happened this week. UPI was down. Transactions were completely stopped. Online payments could not be made either. What should be done in such a situation? If the payment is not made, how can the money be refunded? Here is the way.

1. Check the balance

If the payment is not made or is blocked through UPI, then first of all you need to check the balance of the bank account. If the money is not deducted from the account, the balance remains as it was, then there is no problem.

2. Don’t worry if the money is deducted

If the money is deducted from the account, but the recipient does not receive the money, then you should understand that the money is being processed. Usually, the money is automatically refunded within 24 hours or a maximum of 3 days. If it does not come, then you need to contact the bank.

3. Keep the UPI transaction ID

Every UPI transaction has a transaction ID, which may be required to track the payment. If the money is blocked, the customer can use this ID to know the current status of the transaction with the bank.

4. Contact the bank’s customer care

The transaction ID of the failed transaction should be shared with the bank’s customer care. They will inform the customer about the refund status and guide them on how to track it.

5. It is better to carry cash

Payments through UPI are easy and fast. But it requires internet. So if you don’t want to face any problems when needed, you should carry some cash or at least a debit or credit card. So that you have other payment options at hand.

Although UPI transactions are easy, fast and secure, sometimes the service can be disrupted due to technical issues. In such a situation, it is wise not to panic and patiently check your bank balance, save the transaction ID and contact the bank’s customer care if necessary. Besides, you should always keep some cash or alternative payment methods with you to avoid such inconveniences.
