EPFO 3.0: The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) is embarking on a significant digital transformation for its members. This new initiative, known as EPFO 3.0, will make the PF withdrawal and transfer process entirely paperless. The goal of this system is to remove lengthy procedures and delays. Members will have the ability to transfer PF funds directly to their bank accounts through UPI and UPI-enabled ATMs.
When is EPFO 3.0 set to launch?
Union Labor Minister Mansukh Mandaviya mentioned in May that the testing of this facility has been completed and it will be launched shortly. However, a specific launch date has yet to be revealed.
How much money can you withdraw?
Under EPFO 3.0, members will be able to withdraw 50% to 75% of their EPF balance through UPI or a UPI-enabled ATM. However, rules require that at least 25% of the balance be maintained in the PF account. This means that the entire amount cannot be withdrawn at once.
How will PF withdrawal work through UPI?
Members will be able to view their transferable PF balance
You can transfer money through UPI linked to your Aadhaar and bank account.
The transaction will be completed by entering the UPI PIN.
Once the money is credited to the bank account, it can be used for online payments or ATM cash withdrawals.
Auto-settlement limit increased
The EPFO has increased the auto-settlement limit from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. This will allow PF withdrawal claims for needs such as home purchase, home construction, education, marriage, or medical treatment to be settled within three days. Will it affect pension? No. Withdrawals through ATM or UPI will only apply to deposits in your EPF account. This will not affect pensions received under the Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS).
What else will change with EPFO 3.0?
You will be able to create and activate UAN through face authentication on UMANG app.
You can view your passbook instantly
You can update incorrect information online.
Can file claim online
Errors related to Aadhaar linking can also be corrected online.
EPFO facility will also be available on WhatsApp
EPFO will now reach out to members through WhatsApp as well.
Members will be able to initiate a conversation by texting “Hello” to the EPFO’s official WhatsApp number. Services will be available in local languages, with 24×7 automated support, and important updates will be received directly on their mobile phones, benefiting millions of members. The EPFO currently manages funds worth approximately ₹28 lakh crore. According to the organization, as of February 25, 2026, over 35.2 million claims up to ₹5 lakh have been settled through the auto-settlement mode.
With the implementation of EPFO 3.0, the PF withdrawal and transfer process will become faster, easier, and more digital than ever before. This will provide millions of employees with quick access to their funds.
