Ration Card Cancelled – The government distributes different ration cards to people, based on their income. People receive subsidized rations based on the card. Without a ration card, you cannot avail any of the benefits associated with it.
During the verification of beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, 50 thousand ration cards have been cancelled in Jammu and Kashmir in the last five years. This information was shared by the central government in response to a question in Parliament. According to information provided by the Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, 33,677 ration cards were cancelled in 2021, 2,927 in 2022, 5,403 in 2023, and 3,036 so far in 2025. Consequently, the total number of cancelled ration cards stood at 49,810.

In the Union Territory of Ladakh, 614 ration cards were cancelled in 2021, 30 in 2022, 58 in 2023, 615 in 2024, and 764 in 2025. A total of 2,081 ration cards were cancelled in Ladakh in the last five years.
According to the ministry, among the cancelled ration cards, there were many in which the beneficiaries were above 100 years of age, some were duplicate ration cards, some in which no entries were ever made and some were in the names of minors.

How to apply for a Ration Card offline?
First of all you have to go to DFSC (District Food and Supply Controller) office.
Now here you will have to submit depot holder report, two photographs of each family member and penalty fee.

Along with this, many times the family is also asked for a group photo.
Apart from this, take the form for duplicate ration card, it is called D-Y form.

After filling out the DY form, you’ll need to include the depot holder report, two receipts for the penalty fee, and a photo of each family member. You’ll receive a notification when your card is ready. You’ll then need to visit the ration card office to obtain a duplicate ration card.
How to apply online?
Each state has a different website for ration cards. Therefore, the process for applying for a duplicate ration card also varies. You will find the option to apply for a new ration card on the website.
