LPG Supply: The government has provided a significant update on the supply of LPG cylinders. The Central Government has announced that it is now supplying more domestic LPG cylinders. They mentioned that they are addressing the current demand and reducing the backlog, suggesting that panic buying has lessened and the availability of cooking gas has improved since March, as reported by the Times of India.
The delivery time for LPG cylinders has also seen enhancements
Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary of the Petroleum Ministry, stated that the delivery time for LPG cylinders has improved since the booking date. Sharma remarked, “In recent days, our supply of LPG cylinders has exceeded the number of bookings. We are working to normalize the booking and delivery process.” She noted that oil marketing companies are actively clearing the backlog. Additionally, she mentioned that LPG production in refineries has been ramped up to approximately 50,000 tonnes per day to ensure domestic availability.
Approximately 1.7 crore refills in just 4 days
In the past 4 days, nearly 1.7 crore refills have been booked. Sharma indicated that gas distributors successfully supplied 6 lakh more cylinders. He explained that prior to the conflict in the Middle East, the delivery time for LPG cylinders from the booking date was two days. However, as tensions escalated between America and Iran, this time increased to over 5 days. He added, ‘The backlog is steadily decreasing, and the delivery time has now reduced to 4.5 days.’ He emphasized that efforts are underway to deliver more refills than the number of bookings.
Consumers can avail transfer vouchers
The central government on Monday issued a notification allowing LPG customers to either surrender their gas cylinder connection or avail a transfer voucher within 30 days of getting a PNG connection. This transfer voucher will enable consumers to get their LPG connection back if they shift to a non-PNG area. Joint Secretary Sujata Sharma said there is no fuel shortage. The government and oil retail companies are closely monitoring the current situation.
