Tata Tiago CNG Facelift: The Indian car market is set to witness a major explosion in the budget-friendly and affordable hatchback segment. Tata Motors, the country’s leading automaker, is all set to launch the new facelift model of its highly popular hatchback, the Tata Tiago, on May 28th.
After giving a first look at the petrol version, the company has now released a new official video of the CNG version of the Tiago, the Tata Tiago iCNG Facelift. This video has created a stir in the automobile world, as the AMT variant of the new Tiago CNG has been confirmed to have paddle shifters.
This is the first time in the entire segment that this premium feature is being offered in a CNG hatchback. Aside from the CNG-specific changes, the car looks just as modern and stunning as its petrol counterpart.
Engine and Performance
Mechanically, the engine of the new Tata Tiago CNG facelift remains unchanged, but the addition of paddle shifters will be a game-changer. This is not found in any of its segment rivals, such as the Maruti Celerio or Hyundai Grand i10 Nios.
The car comes with the company’s proven 1.2-liter, three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. In petrol mode, this engine produces 86 hp, while switching to CNG mode reduces output to 75.5 hp. A 5-speed manual gearbox is standard, while a 5-speed AMT (automatic) gearbox is also available for customer convenience.
Tata Motors’ biggest highlight is its space-saving twin-cylinder CNG technology, which continues in this new facelift model. The two smaller CNG cylinders are fitted in the lower part of the trunk, providing excellent luggage space. Furthermore, the popular ‘Direct Start-in-CNG’ feature, which allows the car to start directly in CNG mode, has also been retained.
Cabin and Premium Features
Step inside the cabin and you’ll feel like you’re in a brand-new and luxurious car. Tata Motors has completely redesigned the old dashboard.
A large 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system sits in the center of the dashboard, supporting wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The old LCD driver display has been replaced with a new, sleeker digital instrument cluster. Its dashboard has been redesigned with a premium ‘Layered Layout’, which looks modern and clean.
For a comfortable and safe ride, it features a 360-degree camera setup, two wireless charging pads for mobile charging, a premium rotary gear selector knob, and a push-button start/stop function for keyless starting.
Exterior
Regarding the exterior, the Tiago facelift has been made sharper and sportier than ever before. The company has reworked its soft parts, giving it a modern look.
You’ll notice new redesigned front and rear bumpers. The car features sleek LED headlights at the front and newly designed LED taillights at the rear, connected by a beautifully contrasting band (connected-style strip).
Additionally, new attractively designed 15-inch alloy wheels have been added to refresh the car’s side profile, giving it a striking road presence.
Expected Prices and Variants
The current Tata Tiago CNG is priced between ₹5.54 lakh and ₹7.40 lakh (ex-showroom) for manual variants (such as the XE MT and XM MT), while automatic variants like the XT AMT range from ₹7.32 lakh to ₹7.92 lakh (ex-showroom).
With the addition of big-car technology like paddle shifters, a 10.25-inch screen, and a 360-degree camera, the new facelifted model could see a price increase of around ₹30,000, depending on the variant.
After its official launch in the Indian market, it will face direct and tough competition, as always, from cars like Maruti Suzuki Celerio and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios.
